Seth Walks Peak District
Visiting the location used for Television's 'Royston Vasey' 16 September 2004
When we woke up on the Saturday morning in the Peak District to discover that we were only three miles down the road from where the BBC's television series 'The League of Gentlemen' was filmed it was instantly a foregone conclusion that we would pop down first thing and take a peek around.
For those who haven't seen it, it is a British comedy with a dark sense of humour, presenting the stories of a town of bizarre characters, the message on the town sign reading "Welcome to Royston Vasey. You'll Never Leave".
The actual town is called Hadfield, and the townspeople were obviously all aware of its use as a filming location, and its bizarre reputation to go with it. The highlight of the day for me was the smile of cute amusement I received from an old lady who passed as we subtly tried to take photos of the places we recognised from the show. She was obviously thinking something along the lines of "More crazy people finding fascination with our town 'cos of that wacky League of Gentleman thing."
We only stayed for about an hour, after breakfast in the Cafe Royston. We managed to leave okay!
