Seth Walks Peak District
Hadfield and Edale, The Peak District, September 2004 16 September 2004
We arrived about 8 o'clock on the Friday night at an Inn in Birch Vale where we spent the evening and that night.
In the morning, we drove to Hadfield, which is the town where they film the tv series 'The League of Gentlemen'. We spent a couple of hours being complete tourists, taking photos of the town. From there we set off for a walk early afternoon which took us along part of the Trans Pennine Way in the Longdendale Valley, and then joined the Pennine Way at Crowden.
Having walked along this for a couple of hours, we turned back and crossed back across the Torside Reservoir to rejoin the Trans Pennine Way back to Hadfield. Because we didn't finish walking until 8 in the evening, and having got rained on for the last 45 minutes, we got a take away and took it to the youth hostel we were staying in that night in Edale. We were up rather late that night talking, so consequently we got up very leisurely the next day.
We left about 1pm and drove to Castleton, where we visited Speedwell Cavern, a lead mine from bygone days which made a loss of thousands of old English pounds.
After a 50 minute underground journey in the Cavern, we drove to Bakewell, parked at the edge of the town and walked in. We had a gentle afternoon wandering around the town, and then left about 5, armed with our original Bakewell tarts!
