Seth Walks Lake District
Borrowdale, Lake District, May 2004 - Diary 18 May 2004
We arrived at the Borrowdale youth hostel on the Friday evening and having settled into our rooms, we went to a local pub for the evening. There we got to know each other. Three of us were from the UK Kal had flown out from the States to be with us.
On the Saturday, we went walking on a route from our youth hostel, up through Grange and Watendlath, stopping for lunch by a waterfall and back to the youth hostel. That evening we had dinner in the youth hostel and then went for a drink in a pub in Buttermere, via one of the most hair-raising drives ever in the dark up and down the hairpin bends on a, well almost cliff-edge road, and making sure we got back to the Hostel in time before it closed its doors.
On the Sunday we firstly visited Castlerigg stone circle, and in the afternoon, after saying goodbye to Kal, we had quite an energetic climb up a route that took us near Bassenthwaite Lake, along part of the Allendale Ramble. Although we were right next to Skiddaw, one of the higher mountains in the Lakes, we decided not to make the extra journey to climb this as it was getting quite late, we were fairly tired, and the hill walk we had already done was quite sufficient legend material!
That evening we were reasonably tired, and found another pub to enjoy a quiet drink in. On Monday we took a gentle walk from our youth hostel, up and around Stonethwaite Beck, followed by a lovely drive around Windermere in the evening - see the gallery for the Windermere picures. We had fantastic weather throughout the weekend, and the group all enjoyed each others company. I'm looking forward to many more of these events!
