To change a belief or not to change a belief. That is the question. 26 September 2004
I get my legs waxed. That is a physical action I take for the effect of having legs that look nice according to my belief system with its value judgements and beliefs in how my body functions. I am well aware that I could 'change my beliefs' about how my body works, or simply that I can 'control' what my body looks like in any moment and be done with it, or 'change my beliefs' about what looks nice, ...or I could make good use of the belief system I have given myself and see what direction it is pointing me in.
I know that I want to choose a lifestyle of physical activity and being outdoors, preferably mainly in the sunshine! If I was out and about in the sunshine for a large chunk of time, then the hairs on my legs would become bleached, which I actually personally prefer to waxed. Therefore, why would I bother to change the beliefs mentioned above?
Clearly if I'm not spending as much time out and about as I'd like, then there are other beliefs operating, but until I can decide what exactly I am telling myself with any given situation, it may be premature to jump in and 'change a belief'.
