Taking responsibility for my world
26 September 2004

Once each and every one of us takes total responsibility for ourselves, and everything within our lives, we will be exercising our amazing power, and creating lives full of meaning, love, purpose.

It would be fair to say that I had never really understood the total interconnectedness of everything. Whilst I knew that all things were connected, I wasn't aware of the dynamics of my own power, value, worth, uniqueness within that. Because of that, I would be able to say, "I'm not responsible for the graffiti on the garage", meaning I didn't personally physically do it.

However, the graffiti would be there as a direct result of my beliefs. I did not realise I had the power to be able to participate in creating a different mindset, empowering others to realise their own personal power, to be able to take responsibility for themselves and their world.

Now if I see graffiti, I know that I am using certain beliefs which may cover many things. For example, "the youth of today have no respect". Or "people have no outlet for their creative expression". Or "the council are not acting quickly enough when there is a problem". Or "isn't it lovely to have some colour on those grey garages?"

If the situation highlights a belief for me that I am comfortable using, then I won't think about modifying it, but if it brings up a belief or beliefs that I would rather not be making use of, I can recognise this and do something to change it.

If I take the second example, that "people have no outlet for their creative expression", I may be trying to show myself that I do not feel I have anywhere to express my creativity. So if I can find myself a way to express my creativity, then I may no longer see graffiti.

For me, this would represent me taking responsibility for what I see in my world. I would have found what I was trying to tell myself and acted on it.
